Questions & answers
The answers clients ask for most — about accounts, money, trading and safety. If yours is not here, client services will help you further.
Account & getting started
How do I open an account?
You apply digitally with identification and an appropriateness assessment — the rules require us to understand your experience with leveraged products before the account is opened. The whole process normally takes less than [XX] minutes.
Can I try it without depositing money?
Yes. The demo account is free, requires no deposit and mirrors the live environment with the same prices and risk controls — until you know whether this is for you.
What does an account cost?
Nothing to open and nothing to hold. Fees are charged on trading according to the price list. An inactivity fee may apply after [XX] months without trading — the terms are in the account agreement.
Which account tiers exist?
Six tiers, from Bronze to Signature. Your tier follows your total capital with Julius Gate and is reviewed quarterly — the higher the tier, the better the terms. The full comparison is under Account types.
Deposits & withdrawals
How do I deposit money?
By bank transfer from an account in your own name. The money goes directly to a segregated client-money account with a partner bank — never to the company's own accounts.
How long does a withdrawal take?
Withdrawals are processed the same banking day if requested before [XX:XX] CET. After that, the receiving bank's lead times apply — normally one to three further banking days.
Where is my money held?
In segregated client-money accounts with the company's partner banks, separate from the company's own funds and reconciled every banking day. The details are in the Protection of Client Funds document under Trust.
Can someone else deposit into my account?
No. Third-party deposits are rejected and returned — part of the anti-money-laundering framework and the protection of your account.
Trading & margin
What is a CFD?
A contract on the price movement of an underlying instrument — you never own the actual share or commodity. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses relative to your invested capital.
What leverage can I trade with?
Up to 1:100, depending on the instrument and client category. The level for each instrument is shown in the platform before you place the order.
Can I lose more than I deposited?
No. All retail investor accounts have negative balance protection, meaning the loss can never exceed the capital in the account. The protection does not apply to professional clients.
What happens if I lack cover?
At an [XX]% margin level a warning is sent. At [XX]% positions are closed automatically, largest unrealised loss first. The levels are in the account agreement and shown in the platform.
Prices & fees
What does trading cost?
Spread and, where applicable, commission according to the price list — all levels are placeholders until the price list is finalised. Every cost is shown before the order is placed, and reported per position in the platform.
What is overnight financing?
A financing cost for leveraged positions held overnight. It is always shown before you place the order and booked daily against your balance.
Do withdrawals cost anything?
No, Julius Gate charges no withdrawal fee. The receiving bank may in some cases charge its own fees, particularly for currency conversion.
Wealth management & savings
How does the managed portfolio work?
Everything starts from a plan built around your risk appetite, your horizon and what the capital should do for you. The portfolio is rebalanced continuously by our AI models under the oversight of our professional team, and you can end the mandate whenever you like — no lock-in.
What interest do I earn on the savings account?
The rate is variable and follows market conditions — the current level is always shown in the platform. It applies from the first franc, with no minimum deposit.
Can I move money between savings, management and trading?
Yes, freely and directly in the platform, without waiting and without fees.
Tax & reporting
How is my trading taxed?
Julius Gate is a Swiss broker and withholds no Swedish tax. For private individuals resident in Sweden, gains on CFD trading are normally taxed as income from capital and declared on the K4 appendix, and losses are generally deductible under the Swedish Tax Agency's rules. Exactly how you are taxed depends on your circumstances and country of residence — confirm with a tax adviser or your tax authority.
Can I trade via an ISK (Swedish investment savings account)?
Today, accounts are offered as ordinary custody accounts, where gains and losses are declared under the capital rules. The account offering is reviewed as the business develops within the EEA — if the ISK is added it will apply to the investing section (shares and ETFs), since CFDs are not eligible ISK assets. The current account forms are always shown at account opening.
What about foreign withholding tax?
With CFDs you never own the underlying share, so classic withholding tax on dividends is not deducted — instead your position is adjusted by an amount corresponding to the dividend, where a deduction corresponding to withholding tax may occur. For shares and ETFs in the Invest section, foreign withholding tax may be deducted on dividends; it can often be fully or partly credited in your Swedish tax return.
Does Julius Gate report to the Swedish Tax Agency?
No — as a Swiss institution we do not file statements the way Swedish banks do, and you are responsible for your own tax return. Switzerland does, however, participate in the automatic exchange of information (CRS), so account details may be shared with the tax authority in your country of residence. The annual summary in the platform gives you the basis for the K4.
Trust & regulation
Who supervises Julius Gate?
Julius Gate AG is supervised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA and audited annually by an external auditor.
What happens to my money if the company fails?
Segregated client funds do not form part of the company's bankruptcy estate — they are set apart for the benefit of the clients before the company's creditors are paid. Read more in the Protection of Client Funds document.
How is my login protected?
Two-factor authentication on all accounts, and withdrawals can only be made to a bank account in your own name. Changed bank details require renewed identification.
